It is a dense, heavy and very strong wood... 238% denser than Teak, having a specific gravity of .91. The Janka hardness of a particular wood is used as an indicator of its durability and resistance to wear and denting. On this scale, Jatoba is roughly 81% harder than red oak, 78% harder than ash, 62% harder than hard maple, 23% harder than jarrah, and is just over 6% harder than santos mahogany's ranking of 2200.
