Oiled Finish
Because of the wood's combination of beauty, density, strength and durability, New River manufactures its furniture exclusively using the wood species "Brazilian Cherry."
This rich wood species is now quite popular as it used commonly in wood flooring. It is a very beautiful reddish brown wood, with an interlocking grain and a golden luster or glow beneath. To highlight the wood's exotic golden luster, our "Oiled Finish" is a pre-applied factory finish with an organic linseed oil coating. The linseed oil brings out the deep red color. The wood will turn an even more deep red color after initial use in the sun. The wood will start to fade and will eventually turn gray.
An application of a high-quality, boiled linseed oil (available at your local hardware store) every 1-3 months is important to help extend the life and uniformity of the red color. Just as an important side note, it is important to read and follow the linseed manufacturer's instructions.
Over time, if untreated, natural Brazilian Cherry will turn a handsome silver gray. If this color is preferred, no maintenance is required. However, if desired, once your furniture has turned gray, there are several methods to bring back the original deep red color. Please see our Care and Maintenance Section on this website.
When used outdoors, we strongly suggest that the products be kept in a covered area, where the oiled finishes will weather gradually over time. Although we use the best finishing materials available on the market, as with all wood products, the more exposure to sun and the elements, the more quickly the oiled wood will weather.
However, if you want improved outdoor protection with a similar look, we invite you to also preview either our "ClearCare" or "Reve Cinnamon" collections. They have similar looks but ClearCare and Rêve finishes offer better protection. All our finishes feature an ultra-smooth and beautiful feel, while you can still see the wood grain.
